10:00 - 17:00, Sunday
10 October 2004
Sponsor:
Dublin
Core Education Working Group
Co-sponsored By: The National Science Digital Library initiative
Chair:Robby
Robson
This workshop explores the steps that digital libraries can take to support the
adoption and adaptation of digital learning resources in multiple contexts and
settings. It is based on a set of reusable design guidelines and collection
policies being developed as part of the U.S. National Science Digital Library (NSDL)
initiative. Key issues identified within the NSDL include the support of rich
metadata, rights management, and technical interoperability.
Topics covered will include:
1. Characteristics of learning resources that increase reusability
2. Technical interoperability and technical interoperability standards (e.g.
SCORM)
3. Practices that digital libraries can implement to support reuse
4. Associated metadata polices and practices
The entire workshop is interactive in nature. Participants will explore a rich
set of examples and will also be asked to contribute their own experience and
expertise on the above topics.
Presenter:
The primary presenter for this workshop will be Dr. Robby Robson, principle
investigator of the NSDL reusable learning project and chair of the IEEE
Learning Technology Standards Committee.
